Walking ยท one minute

One brisker minute

Also called walking intervals, interval walking or pace changes.

One brisker minute: the two ends of the movement, drawn as a line figure

How to do a one brisker minute

  1. Walk at your steady pace for a few minutes first.
  2. Pick up the pace a little for one minute.
  3. Check you can still speak a short sentence, and ease off if you cannot.
  4. After the minute, ease back to your steady pace.

In Vaskuna the voice says: “Pick the pace up a little for one minute, then ease back.”

Go gently

Ease off if you cannot speak a short sentence.

Your breathing will quicken, but you should still be able to say a short sentence.

Make it easier

Speed up only slightly, or keep the brisker part to thirty seconds.

Make it a little harder

Add a second brisker minute later in your walk, with a few easy minutes in between.

Have within reach

  • Somewhere to walk, indoors or out

In a session

In Vaskuna this usually lasts one minute. It is part of two routines: Longer walk, Longer steady walk.

Questions

How fast is a brisker minute?

Only a little faster than your steady pace. Your breathing quickens, but you can still speak a short sentence. If you cannot, slow down.

Do I need a watch to time the brisker minute?

No. In a Vaskuna session the app times the minute for you. Without the app, pick a landmark a short way ahead and ease back once you reach it.
