Wall push

Also called wall push-ups or wall press-ups.

Wall push: start and finish positions, drawn as a line figure

How to do a wall push

  1. Stand facing a wall, about an arm's length away.
  2. Place your hands flat on the wall at shoulder height, shoulder width apart.
  3. Bend your elbows slowly to bring your chest towards the wall.
  4. Push back to the start, breathing out as you push.

In Vaskuna the voice says: “Stand an arm's length from the wall, hands flat on it at shoulder height and width. Bend your elbows, then push back, body straight.”

Go gently

Keep breathing out as you push.

Breathe in as you lean towards the wall and out as you push away.

Make it easier

Stand closer to the wall so you lean less.

Make it a little harder

Stand a small step further from the wall, or take a slow count of three as you bend your elbows.

Have within reach

  • A clear stretch of wall

In a session

In Vaskuna this usually lasts one minute. It is part of two routines: Chair strength, Chair strength plus.

Questions

How far from the wall should I stand for wall push-ups?

Start about an arm's length away. Standing closer makes it easier, and standing a little further back makes it harder. Choose a spot where your feet will not slip.

Should my body stay straight during a wall push?

Yes. Keep your body in one straight line from head to heels. Let your elbows do the bending rather than letting your hips sag.
